Fuel your intellectual curiosity and professional growth. Forrester is an idea company, where smart, motivated, curious people bring a diversity of opinions and the courage of their convictions to collaborate on ideas that change the course of business. Most of all, bring a point of view; here, every voice has value. At Forrester, you’ll work with innovative clients at emerging and established brands; these are the business and technology leaders we inspire and who inspire us. The Forrester experience is built on a singular, powerful purpose: to challenge thinking and lead change.

    About This Role:

Analysts conduct innovative research and deliver advice through written reports, consulting, client inquiries, webinars, and event speeches.  Forrester’s infrastructure & operations (I&O) research team advises clients responsible for three principal areas: 1) infrastructure + service design (including cloud computing and software-defined infrastructure); 2) modern service delivery (including operational excellence, DevOps, service brokering, monitoring, analytics, and automation); and 3) edge + employee experience (including IoT, mobile, and the future of work).

Forrester is looking for a new Analyst to join the modern service delivery area (#2 above), to focus on the “monitoring” and analytics components of operations and of the DevOps lifecycle (concentrating on areas like application performance management (APM), cognitive and AI for intelligent operations, and the evolution of monitoring).

The Analyst writes to, presents to, and advises I&O professionals as well as clients in other roles, such as CIOs, CTOs, enterprise architects, and security & risk professionals. The Analyst will research concepts, frameworks, technologies, best practices, organizational and business implications of monitoring and analytics for modern service delivery, application performance, and operations. The Analyst will develop innovative thinking that challenges the status quo, and will be curious about new and emerging trends, and is comfortable advising C-Level clients.

    Responsibilities

Understanding of what Forrester clients require to be successful as I&O professionals, with a focus on how they deliver an optimum experience with automation, infrastructure, and cloud services.

    • Conduct primary research on how operations pros can best work with their development, testing, security, and infrastructure colleagues across the service lifecycle.
    • Collaborate with experts on different focus areas from across Forrester roles and geographic teams to develop a complete context for these trends, both providing input to their research reports and writing reports incorporating expertise from across Forrester to provide a “big picture” of the “monitoring” and analytics components of operations and of the DevOps lifecycle.
    • Collaboratively develop cohesive bodies of research that are focused on helping clients succeed with specific operational challenges and opportunities.
    • Develop and drive bold new approaches to situational awareness and analytics to make sense of the flood of operational data facing I&O professionals. Expand “monitoring” beyond pervasive but obsolete interpretations to a whole new level of value.
    • Write/create approximately 10 reports and workbooks per year and use social media to develop visibility for your research and Forrester and contribute to Forrester client communities.
    • Consult with clients to apply Forrester’s research in the context of their specific business environment, and to help solve their problems through inquiry and advisory.
    • Present at Forrester-sponsored and industry-related events and deliver client webinars.
    • Establish an industry presence as an influential speaker and thinker; build relationships with senior I&O professionals and vendor executives, CTOs, and CIOs, as well as with the journalists who cover the sector; and participate in vendor briefings and field press inquiries as necessary.

    Qualifications

      • A deep understanding of the issues, market options, and future direction for DevOps, with special emphasis on the “monitoring” and analytics components.
      • Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) as applied to operational monitoring, automated decision triggers, and predictive analytics.
      • A minimum of three to five years of software development experience or equivalent demonstrable expertise. Development applied to automating infrastructure tasks or operational processes is preferred.
      • A minimum of five to seven years of experience in IT management positions responsible for integrated product delivery, DevOps, enterprise service management, business service management strategy, application performance management, or equivalent relevant experience with a vendor or consulting firm and a deep understanding of the competitive marketplace.
      • A strong record of academic achievement: B.A. or B.S. minimum; MBA or M.S. preferred.
      • A deep intellectual curiosity about the effect of technology on the business landscape; solid business instincts and a practical understanding of what makes companies tick and how I&O professionals operate; and a creative view of markets, technologies, and attitudes combined with a fascination with the future.
      • Superior listening, critical thinking, and writing skills, as well as memorable presentation skills. Analysts are expected to take complex, disparate ideas and distill them into simple, provocative concepts — and be willing to take a stand on vendors and outcomes.
      • The ability to travel more than 25% of the time.
