    About This Role:

     

    The Principal Consultant is a leader within the consulting practice. In this role, you will work with our consulting, research, analytics, product, and sales organizations to develop business opportunities with new and existing clients; develop and lead client relationships; lead teams; and contribute to delivering consulting engagements and driving practice development in terms of advancing our portfolio of capabilities, methods, and tools in defined areas. In addition, the Principal Consultant leads and supports internal initiatives aimed at achieving business objectives.

     

    The Principal Consultant scopes and delivers research-based consulting projects that improve business performance for our clients and are based on our published research, including: CIO topics, application development and delivery (AD&D), enterprise architecture, infrastructure and operations, cloud computing, data, business intelligence (BI), and security. 

     
    The ideal candidate has subject matter experience supporting technology strategy, application delivery architecture, and security and infrastructure teams, with experience working across the project life cycle from inception to execution.

     

    Specific experience in areas such as COTS implementations, modern application delivery methodologies such as Agile or DevOps, data management, big data and analytics, mobile, or digital experience architectures is desirable. A focus on leveraging technology to meet business objectives is necessary.

     

    The ideal candidate has extensive management/strategic consulting experience, working with executives from Fortune 1000 companies on complex strategic, organizational, and operational challenges.

    Responsibilities

    Principal Consultants have three major responsibilities: 

    1. Partner with our sales reps and business development directors to promote our research-based consulting capabilities with prospects and clients.
    2. Create high-quality research-based consulting deliverables, such as business cases, maturity assessments, strategic road maps, vendor selections, or performance metrics reviews.
    3. Partner with other consultants or research analysts to develop repeatable consulting offerings based on our published methodologies — or other practice development activities.

     

    They must: 

    • Achieve individual revenue targets, support the achievement of team-level revenue targets on a quarterly basis, and contribute to the achievement of team revenue targets for North America strategy (NAS) consulting overall.
    • Partner with sales reps and other business development partners to identify prospects for these consulting offerings based on analysis of clients and prospects who attend Forrester events and workshops, request analyst inquiries, or read research reports.
    • Hire, develop, coach, mentor, and lead other consultants.
    • Work with others within NAS consulting and across Forrester’s global consulting group as well as the research group to develop and codify consulting capabilities, methods, tools and offerings, and related artifacts that we can apply to business development and engagement delivery.
    • Cultivate trust-based relationships with Forrester’s clients for C-level executives.
    • Oversee and personally contribute to the delivery of consulting engagements, ensuring high quality and an adherence to project commitments while managing client expectations and keeping the project within scope and budget.
    • Identify opportunities for new research and consulting themes based on feedback from clients and trends in our engagements with clients.
    • Support the broader ecosystem through adoption of consistent practices and approaches to empower consultants to be successful and deliver actionable outcomes to clients.

     

     

    Qualifications

    • A combined minimum of eight to 12 years of management consulting experience and experience in support of software and application delivery efforts supporting strategic development, technology transformation, marketing, sales, and customer service business objectives.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop consulting offerings, scope and price projects, and close consulting deals, in partnership with sales professionals.
    • Demonstrated experience with designing and delivering technology solutions, preferably in the areas that support an organization’s interactions with its customers (e.g., BI, analytics, marketing technology, customer service and support, and data insights) — with increasingly strategic outcomes.
    • Demonstrated ability to achieve key performance metrics such as utilization rates or revenue targets.
    • Ability and desire to work on multiple strategy projects concurrently — balancing the needs of each to achieve superior client satisfaction.
    • Experience preparing deliverables for clients, owning and delivering the finished product, and taking the outputs of workshops and creating client-facing deliverables for delivery to C-level business executives.
    • Strong communication, analytical, and client-facing skills.
    • Experience working with subject matter experts with deep content knowledge.
    • A strong academic record of achievement; an MBA or other demonstrated business acumen preferred.
    • Ability to work on US federal government projects.
    • The ability to travel (approximately 10 days per month).
